Jovanna

"...we thank you so much for allowing us to take this beautiful girl into our lives. She blossoms more each day. She talks all the time. All she wants is to be picked up and loved and kissed. I think we are creating a monster...Ha ha. She still spends most of her time in our bedroom, but now the door is open and she may come and go as she pleases. The 'boys' are in awe. They aren't sure just why she is here, but there have been no cat fights....only a few growls and hisses. These will subside. She has been sleeping with us since the first night she was here. We love her. I still cannot image who would put her in a kill shelter. She is wonderful. We are so thankful.." Backstory: Jovanna was adopted from us in 2003 as a 6-month-old kitten. She was born deaf, and we had pulled her from the kill list at the county shelter. After 11 years, she was again left at the county shelter. We don't know why the owner did not call us, because we do take them back. Luckily a volunteer at the shelter saw the PAWS logo on the paperwork which was turned in with Jovanna. (BCSO did not contact us - the volunteer did). So, once again, we pulled Jovanna from the county shelter. We called the owner to find out Jovanna's likes and dislikes. The owner hung up the phone on us and would not discuss it. Jovanna quickly acclimated to Mona's garage foster area - she carved out her "spot" and would swat at any other kitty who came near! With sometimes a dozen cats free-roaming the area, Jovanna made sure "her" space was secure. Mona set her up with her own food and water nearby, plus two litter pans to choose from. We were sure a lot of people would like her "look" -- yes, she is one of those "flashy" white cats, with one green eye and one blue eye! However, once they would find out her age and that she is deaf, they would not consider her for adoption. :( And yes, that is exactly what happened, over and over, for the next year and 3 months. We had about 20 inquiries about her. One even came over to adopt her earlier this year, and then backed out. In early July 2016, when another family came to meet her in the foster area, Jovanna responded to them right away.

Josephine

She is doing great. A member of family on her own terms. She joins the others for wet food and treats and is getting along with everyone. She is not taking a lower spot that's not her style and this is As it should be. She is friendly but not pushy. From the beginning she told Teddie to back off. He just wanted to look at her, still does-but now it does not bother her, she even tries to steal his food. He would give it to her, she will soon find out what a pushover he is for a fluffy tail. She loves to be brushed-thinks it a treat of some kind, follows me around,and is very affectionate. Likes to be petted but not held, no lap yet. health wise she is fine with a great appetite. She has been interacting well with Sassy who is not acting any differently now and has returned to her usual routines and behaviors. The first week has gone very well. ~Rochelle

Jeremy

Harvey is a very happy and playful cat who lives in Deland, FL. He loves to sit on the front screen porch to watch squirrels and birds or play fight with his sister, Joey Potter, a faded calico. He also enjoys finding new places to climb and explore in the house. When he gets tired from his adventures, Harvey likes to nap on a blanket by his mom and dad, Roberta and Brian, and give them kisses. Harvey is a wonderful addition to this Florida family!

Jasmine M

Jasmine, AKA Daisy, is doing great! She and Lily, our other cat, are getting along well, chasing and play fighting. They aren't cuddling yet, but I don't think it will be long! She is eating well, sleeping a lot, and playing. She has helped us recover from the loss of Penny. Thanks! ~Sherry

Juanita Valdez

We asked Anthea (one of the adoption volunteers) to recommend a cat a few years ago, and we took her advice and adopted Tessa. We had been considering getting another cat or kitten, and since Anthea was so spot on with her recommendation of Tessa, we asked who she thought would do well with the kids, Tessa, and our dog. She recommended Juanita (now Mabel). Mabel wants to be friends with everyone. She wants to be with people and the other pets. Our other cat is being timid, but that doesn't stop Mabel from going up to her. She even rubbed her cheek against Piper, our dog, in greeting. She loves being petted and played with. Her purr motor goes on the moment we go up to her. Mabel is good about being picked up and cuddled. The two nights she has been here, she slept next to me. She only spent a small amount of time under the bed when she first got here, but her curiousity got the best of her and she has spent the rest of the time wandering around the house and acts like she has always been here. Mabel is definitely a keeper! We are so happy we got her. UPDATE: Mabel and Tessa sleep together sometimes now. It only took a short time for Mabel to win her over. She loves running around and playing, but also has a super loud purr that starts when you go near her, and keeps getting louder as she gets attention and pettings, or is being held. The whole family (pets included) is happy to have her. ~Linnea
