Typically FELV cats will become symptomatic (get thin, listless, etc.) and you can sometimes get them a transfusion at the vet (appx $400) which will hold them stable for another couple of years. Other times they have a fast growing tumor so they go down quickly. (sometimes that's a blessing rather than a long drawn out illness).

Other Pictures of Wasabi (click to see larger version):DOB appx Dec 2008, DSH flame point siamese mix - neutered male. Wasabi was found abandoned outside a Publix. My husband tried to catch him but Wasabi was too scared in the parking lot. So I went back the next night and set a humane trap - he was a hungry kitty - I had him in about 20 minutes. He has learned to trust humans again, so we were able to get a good picture of him today.
His eyes are pale blue so they go "red" in the pix. OK with other cats and would probably do fine with a gentle dog and older children. He adores attention and prefers to stay on the ground, for some reason we don't find him on furniture (even kitty furniture) - and he is lousy at being picked up! He likes his kitty bed on the floor. So if you want a cat that doesn't jump on the counters, here he is!! LOL
Wasabi has FELINE LEUKEMIA and is in a special room with other kitties who have the disease. It has been proven that these cats do best (live longer) in a private home rather than a shelter with multiple cats. In a shelter they usually live 1-2 years, in a home 7-8 years.
