Gracie was found eating at a feral cat colony. She was there for about a month so is a bit traumatized but she is friendly. She's just a bit reserved now. We're working with her to rebuild her trust and this takes time and a lot of patience.
People who dump indoor kittens on the street ... well, those kittens are freaked out by the outdoors, so it's not easy to catch them. Gracie is decompressing from that experience .... You can tell in these first photos that she is unsure of herself. We rescuers can tell when a cat has been indoors before, and she has been...so she definitely was dumped.
You wonder how we can tell they have lived indoors? They are fine with normal household sounds, like doors shutting, water running, TV, radio. Put them outside and they are afraid....and take their cues from the feral cats, so they will become feral if they are out there long enough. That's why we rush to get them asap because living on the street is dangerous for them. Not to mention she was not fixed...there would have been kittens and an entire domino effect. Without feral cat caregivers doing TNR and intercepting dumped cats, the streets would be FULL of cats.
Gracie would do best in a home where she has a role-model kitty who is super friendly. This is the best way to keep her socialized with people.
PAWS adopts out kittens in pairs, or adopts to a home with another young kitty (3 yrs or so).
