Description:
These brothers are so special and sweet! A nice lady was having financial difficulties and contacted us to take her Persians (yes they are papered).

Both are fixed, up to date on shots, tested, and dewormed.

We want them to go together. Samson is the light cream one, and Morgan is the red one.

Please note that Persians require a lot of extra care to their coat. They require daily combing, and occasionally a trip to the groomers a couple of times a year.

They also love to be picked up and they RUN to the door when you come into their foster area. Both have been introduced to dogs, kittens, and cats, and are doing fine with all the foster animals.

Sadly Morgan was born with a birth defect so we will not be charging any adoption fee for him, and this is partly why we want them to go together, so Morgan an easier transition to his new home. NOTE: we do have several people lined up ready to take them, the holdup is Morgan's diagnosis. We want to be sure the adopter knows everything necessary to provide for him properly.

Morgan was born with a heart murmur. Typically we see an occasional kitten or young adult with a very slight grade 1 murmur, and as they grow older it can worsen.

With Persians, it is more common. In Morgan's case, his murmur is grade 5 which is almost the top of the scale, and his life expectancy is anywhere from 2 to 8 years, depending on the final diagnosis.  With medication, which we possibly can help provide (depends on cost), his lifespan MIGHT be increased.

Yes, this is sad. Very sad. But, what would be sadder is for him to be separated from his brother, and then to pass alone. Or even sadder would be for him to stay in foster care where the foster mom is busy with full time work plus fostering multiple kitties and caring for feral colonies, as compared to a private home where he gets a vast majority of the attention during his illness. (this is not to say he would not receive optimum care in foster care, however what would happen is MANY other kitties could not be saved during his time).

UPDATE, NOVEMBER 4: Morgan has been to AMC in Melbourne, FL, for an echocardiogram. This showed TWO defects!  Both are very serious and we have an appt on Nov 11 to take him to the University of Florida.

(1) Morgan has VSD, or ventricular septal defect, which is a defect in the ventricular septum, the wall dividing the left and right ventricles of the heart. This is a true congenital defect, his heart didn’t form properly. (2) Morgan has a more rare condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), where the vessel that shunts blood between the pulmonary artery to the aorta in the womb, should close after birth. Morgan's did not close. The opening allows oxygen-rich blood from the aorta to mix with oxygen-poor blood from the pulmanory artery. This can strain the heart and increase blood pressure in the lung arteries. The UF exam is $180, and they will want to do more diagnostics, so we are unsure of the exact total at this time. Thank you everyone for your support, and "sharing" this kitty's story so he can get the help he needs!!

UPDATE NOVEMBER 11: Morgan went to UF. They agreed he has VSD. However due to their advanced machinery, they saw he does not have PDA, he has another issue which is VERY RARE and they are not sure it can be fixed, he has an "over-riding aorta"* which includes an extra heart vessel going from one wrong place to another wrong place (aorta to right pulmanory artery. He requires ANOTHER test to determine exactly what this vessel does and the impact it has on his heart and blood flow. So we have volunteers going to UF on November 18 with him again for this dye to be injected so they can see the blood going through the heart.

*an overriding aorta is a congenital heart defect where the aorta is positioned directly over a VSD instead of over the left ventricle. The result is that the aorta receives some blood from the right ventricle, causing mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, and thereby reducing the amount of oxygen delivered to the tissues. (from Wikipedia)

Also Morgan has been started on beta blockers to regulate his heart.
