Please allow 2-5 business days for your application to be thoroughly processed by one of our Foster Moms.
Most of Our Foster Moms work in addition to helping with PAWS. The application process will
proceed more quickly if you give us a valid email address. We prefer email, as we find it more efficient and appropriate --- it allows us to provide informational
websites, additional information, and it accommodates our Foster Mother’s work schedules.
If the animals are listed on our website they are still available. If
an animal has an adoption pending it will state that in their description. Once adopted, the animal will no longer
be listed.
The adoption of a cat or kitten is not a trivial matter. We take our work very seriously, and we want
to be certain our animals are placed in a loving, caring, appropriate environment. While we cannot guarantee the future health
of our animals, they have received medical attention from a licensed veterinarian. All our felines are spayed or neutered before adoption (this is Brevard County law). They are
vaccinated according to age (young kittens cannot receive a Rabies Vaccine). All are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline
AIDS (FIV). They are also wormed and treated for fleas, and some are even micro-chipped.
Our animals have been cared for in a home environment and are therefore socialized and used to
being in a home and around people. A typical shelter animal, which has been living in a cage or kennel, may
be stressed and/or become sick from their environment, and may lack socialization and possibly interaction skills. We
take care of these animals as though they were our own. Some of them have lived with us for quite some time.
Some, especially small, motherless kittens, we have hand-raised, bottle fed and some we have literally saved from near
death illness or life-threatening situations. PAWS volunteers are very good at matching your lifestyle with a kitty
that would be the best fit. Because we have had most of these kitties running loose in our own homes, we
know them well. Ask which one would best fit your home! Naturally we are attached
to them and, as a result, we want to be sure they are going to a good home where they can be happy.
Caring for an animal costs money. We provide all food, bedding, litter, medical
care, etc that they require; thus, we do charge a $75 donation fee for the adoption of our animals, which usually doesn’t
cover the entire cost of the care they have been given.
Our online adoption forms are easy to complete-just click one of the following to access our
application.
We realize not everyone is comfortable using computers and filling out online
forms. We still want to provide you with a way to fill
out forms so that our animals find good, loving homes!!!! You may use our application links found above to either fill out
the forms in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat, save to your computer and email to us, or open them up to print and fill them
out and fax or mail to us. Please FAX your completed application to 321-752-5120,
email it to the foster mom, or to the main office at paws50@bellsouth.net or mail to the mailing address.
Please be sure to write legibly
when filling out an application. This is essential for us to be able to contact you back. Note: black ink is best for faxes.
Please see our Helpful Information page if you want to get advise on how to introduce your new pet to resident animals, or for additional advice we have deemed
helpful.
Applying for adoption does NOT necessarily guarantee that you will be approved.
We have requirements that all prospective "parents" must meet:
- A valid drivers
license number
- Residency: do you own your home or do you rent it? If you own your home, in most cases we are able to verify
this online with the county Property Appraiser’s Office; however, if you have recently purchased your home you may need
to provide a copy of your settlement statement or your mortgage coupon since recent purchases do not show up instantly in
public records. You may fax it to us at 321-752-5120.
- If you are not the owner of the property, then we need to verify
with the owners of the property that the animal(s) will be allowed.
- If you live in an apartment, we need to see a copy
of your lease stating that you are allowed to have pets, and/or speak with the landlord or property manager. Providing
the name and number of the landlord or manager allows us to more quickly verify that the animal(s) will be allowed.
- What other animals are currently living in the household, and what is their disposition? We need to be sure that the
animal you are adopting will get along with the other "members" of your household. We strive
to make a good match, and age, activity level, and disposition are all good indicators for us to look at in order to determine
if we believe the match is a good one.
- We need your veterinarian’s name and contact information of not only your
current animal(s) but your previous animals as well so we
can obtain a reference. Are your existing animals up to date on vaccines and have they been spayed and neutered? We cannot
consider you as prospective adopters if your existing animals do not meet these standards-PLUS it's a good
idea for the health and well-being of your own animals as well.
Once approved and once you've adopted an animal from
us, we reserve the right to do a post-adoption home visitation to check on the well-being of the animal.
