If you are interested in adopting one of these cats or kittens, please download our application and fax or mail it to the PAWS office.  One of our foster moms will email you back, so please monitor your email afterward. The reason we prefer email is so we can provide informational websites, etc., and our foster moms are working most days (at full time jobs) so emailing is easiest. We get dozens of applications per week so we have found this is most efficient.

Please be sure to write legibly when filling out an application.  This is essential for us to be able to contact you back.

Cats/Pearl.jpg

Pearl
Home without children preferred

Spayed female, solid white and petite, with one blue eye and one yellowish-green eye (no deafness either). Our vet says Pearl is between 2 and 5 years old. She has an ear tip. She was found in the same area as Opal and Leela a couple days after they showed up and we think she is Opal's mom. We suspect that they came from a homeless camp area in the woods.  Right now she is a little shy as she gets used to my home. She is looking for a permanent home of her own where she can continue to feel safe and secure. These girls can be adopted separate or together.  We have her listed as no children right now because she was so terrified when we finally got her. She is doing much better now.  It took two weeks to get her settled in. She is showing the same sweet personality as Opal.

Update: Pearl has settled in quite well and her sweet little personality has really blossomed! She has the prettiest meow. Kind of melodic as she greets me. Turns out, she has a dark nose and some slight cameo coloring on her tail and ears. I originally thought it was dirt. She is just beautiful.  Opal was adopted relatively quickly.

Leela

DOB approx. 2008.  Spayed female most likely DMH orange and white Maine Coon mix with silky fur. Orange females are rare and unusual.

She showed up with Opal at a business in Melbourne not even close to any neighborhoods. They were dirty and starving. The good people that work there called PAWS instead of Animal Control to give them the best chance. Now they are safe with PAWS and no longer hungry or dirty. No telling how far they traveled before they found someone who cared. They are both very sweet girls. They seem well adjusted. She would probably do well with children as she enjoys being handled. They are looking for a permanent home of their own where they can continue to feel safe and secure. These girls can be adopted separate or together.

She is so very sweet and mellow.  You can even rub her tummy.

DOB appx April/May 2008. DSH black with white toes on her back feet, and a tiny spot of white on her chest.  Josie was in a very bad home then dumped on the street where we found her. She has learned to trust us to handle her nicely, and can be picked up now, and be petted. She was tame, just had not been handled nicely.  This was her first picture and it scared her a little so we only took one.  We have more pictures now and will post them shortly.

Gator
DOB appx 2008.  DSH orange mackeral tabby. Here's his story, written by his rescuer!

I was at the gym Monday morning (11/15) and
I got out of my car and I heard something crying and crying and crying.  I was like, "What is that???" because it was so loud and I walked around to the other side of my car and I saw this really cute orange cat and it's just staring up at me crying and crying like, "Please feed me!".  So, I felt so horrible and I walked in to tell the gym manager and she said , "I know..the cat." and I said, "Yes, we have to feed it...it's so hungry!" and she said they didn't have any food for it, but then I made her give it some oatmeal.  So, we took the food outside and the cat was hesitant, but then it came up and started to eat the oatmeal.  We went back inside and  she said the cat had been there since Thursday and has been crying non-stop, but they're not allowed to feed stray cats according to their lease.  She said that some of the people at the gym have been complaining about it so they called Animal Control, but Animal Control never came to get the cat.

So,  I just couldn't leave the poor cat there to cry and I didn't want it to be picked up by Animal Control (and my gym is on a very busy road so I was concerned about it getting run over by a car), so ended up catching the cat and taking it with me to work.   I took him to the vet and it turns out he's already been neutered so I definitely believe he was someone's pet before and that they just dropped him off outside the gym last week (and that's why he was confused and lonely and crying so much).  The vet thinks he's about one-year-old.

Because the vet needed a name for him, I temporarily named him Gator because he's orange and he was so blue (i.e. crying) when I found him (and I'm a graduate of UF) :)

Clementine

DOB appx December 2008, momcat is a DSH brown classic tuxedo, bobtail, polydactyl (extra toes - front).  She gave birth appx 7/10/09 to 6 beautiful kittens.  All have been placed!!!

We got them from the county shelter where they were going to be put on kill row.  They were found as strays on Thor Ave in Palm Bay by Animal Control.

The video shows the kittens on Aug 29, 2009 - at that time, the kittens are between 5 and 6 weeks old.  Clementine was a great momcat. Now she's a super friendly kitty who loves attention and is really cute with her little bobtail (she has about 1/4 tail).

DOB appx 5/26/07, DSH black and white male. Tizzi and Kinobi were found at a Melbourne apt/condo area where maintenance had been directed to take them to the county shelter. They were BOTTLE fed by PAWS from 10 days old. So they are extra sweet!

Kinobi is very loving & likes to sleep in your lap or on the back of the couch. Very sweet & likes tummy rubs and his ears massaged!

Kinobi (and his sister Tizzi) were returned at age 1 year old, due to owner's allergies. Tizzi has been re-adopted.

Nick

DOB appx Feb 2004, DSH blue and cream mackeral tabby and white. Very sweet cat, was in a kill shelter adoption room and they ran out of room so his number was up. He is VERY friendly, outgoing and loving. This is one of our favorite cats.  He has fabulous green eyes and we have been trying to get a good picture that shows his eye color. We have tried and tried to sneak up on him with the camera but he acts like a movie star and turns the other way - until the other day - we finally got him looking at the camera. We want a close up to show his gorgeous moss green eyes!  Still working on that...

DOB appx 2002, DSH sable mackeral tabby, FIV+ (if you know your stuff you will know this is not a big deal). Savanna is a little skittish until she gets to know you (a few days). She loves being petted and will stick her tongue out while you pet her (HAH), and she will ALSO knead one front paw in midair while you pet her. A very sweet cat who was placed in a home with Alanan, and the owner passed away, so they are back in foster care.

DOB 2004, DSH spayed tortoiseshell tabby tuxedo (wow that's a mouthful....). Alanan had a great home then the owner passed away, so she is back in foster care. She is a little shy for a day or so around strangers, then she's fine. OK with other cats. She had been adopted with Savanna, now they are both back. Alanan is a little timid but is okay once she knows you. She likes to sleep beside your hip at night.

Juliet

DOB approx 7/27/08 DSH Solid Black spayed female.  Juliet was found on the side of the road in Cape Canaveral starving and all skinned up. A nice lady picked her up and brought her to PAWS. Now she is healthy and beautiful and ready to be the new member to your family. She is one of the prettiest solid black cats I have seen. Her fur is full and shiney. You would have never know where she began. She is great with other cats and dogs are OK too.

Cats/phoebe_july-25.JPG

Phoebe
DOB appx Sept 2006, DSH creme and blue tuxedo, spayed female (momcat). Phoebe was found dumped with (we think) two separate litters of hers, on a Friday the 13th. She was very thin and we have been fattening her up! She's a very sweet cat, and extremely petite.

Phoebe has a virus which is NOT contagious but she will always have, it is called: Feline Cutaneous Fibropapilloma.

Due to this virus, most people will skip adopting her, despite her being a very nice and playful kitty!

This virus requires no special care, there is a cure...time...and immune supplements. We hope for that one special adopter to come along because her immune system is consistently "taxed" in foster care with the revolving door of kitties and kitty stress. So her virus will clear quickly in a private home.  We verified this with the actual scientists who did the original study on FCF.

Puff
DSH, patch tabby male, born approx June 2008

Suddenly finding myself homeless, I wandered the neighborhood until I found this house with a bunch of cats on the porch.  Then I found some food left out for me, & decided to hang around.  I was finally invited inside, but some of the cats here don’t like me, & they often chase me & jump on me.  My foster Mom thinks I would be happier in a home with no other adult cats, or at least a home with no male cats.

I love little kittens because they don’t scare me.  I used to snuggle with my buddy, but he was adopted a while ago.  I would love to be in home where I don’t have to be afraid all the time.  My vet guessed my age at about a year to 18 months, so I have a long life ahead of me.  I like to play, especially with kittens, & I pull my foster Mom’s hair at night while we're in bed.  She thinks it’s funny.

Lila
DOB appx 2006, DSH shiny black coat! Gorgeous spayed female. Lila was found dumped on the street in the same place as Collier was, with the same kind of injury. (hmmm)

Lila had a cut under her armpit so those take awhile to fully knit. It is completely healed (took several months).

She was hungry and scared, now she has filled out and looks like a completely different cat! She weighs in now at a whopping 17 pounds.

OK with other cats, she typical female cat personality (needs her space occasionally). She loves attention so it is really hard to get a picture of her, she is constantly walking toward the human holding the camera!

Sapphire

We absolutely cannot believe one of these cats is in our foster care. They are so incredibly rare.  Reading history online, they are STILL rare. In 1994 only 10 were in existence, and the blue eyes are a genetic mutation.

Last I heard about them was in Cat Fancy back in the 90's when I subscribed. Karen called me and said "Have you ever seen an orange cat with blue eyes, what breed could that be?" and I said yes that's a Mexican breed...I couldn't remember if the name was  Azur or Azul, but the internet helped me regain my memory!!

Here's our search results:  http://www.squidoo.com/ILoveOjosAzulesCats

There is a picture at http://newbreedcats.com/index.php?option=com_zoom&Itemid=58&page=view&catid=11&PageNo=1&key=0&hit=1

We contacted Marjorie Dorfman who once wrote about this breed, asking her to revisit the subject, as there may be more of them out there now.  Stay tuned!!!

She's shy so she needs a quiet home.

Deco

DOB appx June 2006 (best guess), DSH black & white spayed female, with left eartip (this means she was living on the street). Deco was turned in at the animal shelter, and because she tested FIV+ she was going to be put to sleep. FIV isn't a big deal, we have lots of vets, foster moms, and previous adopters who agree. See the Cornell University website for more info or links on our Helpful Information page. Deco is very loving and sweet, and has interesting markings. She sure has come out of her shell now!  Deco LOVES to be petted, will turn herself inside out coming back for more attention. Her favorite is having her face and forehead rubbed and scratched. She practically dances around you if you pet her. Deco is also extremely playful so would do well in an active home.

Cats/Abby.jpg

Cats/AbbyLayingSideways.jpg

Cats/AbbyLayingSideways.jpg
Abby

DOB appx June 2007. DMH brown mackeral tabby spayed female. She is most likely a Maine Coon mix, as she has the fur and the facial structure. However, she's a miniature - she's very petite. So if you want the look but not the 18-25 pounds, here's your cat choice!

Abby was found hovering around the edges of a feral colony in the woods outside some apartments, looking for food. The caregiver noticed her as being a new cat (good caregivers know all the cats they feed daily, so new kitties are noticed immediately and caught ASAP to foster, like Abby, or fix & release if they are feral).

Abby was limping, poor thing, so the caregiver took her to a vet. Abby had an abcess on her leg, which is healed very quickly!! She had a terrible case of worms...and after deworming, she gained 3 pounds in less than a month!

Abby is very petite and looovveess to be petted, she is a great lapcat. She takes a few days to settle in (like most cats) and is now doing fine in a foster room with about 12 free-roaming cats.

In foster care, Abby REALLY came out of her shell! Now that her tummy doesn't hurt from the worms, she plays and romps with the kittens, and her little personality is awesome!

After her leg healed, we found she LOVES to be picked up -- I was slow dancing with her in my arms, and singing along to the radio, and she was purring up a storm! I am so proud of this cat, she is a TRUE success story, coming off the street looking so awful and now is healthy and happy, playing joyfully, in 8 weeks.

Abby was adopted & returned. The adopter's vet said she had a heart murmur, grade 1. Our vet did not find a heart murmur when we first got her. So we sent her back to our vet after we got her back.

We now have two more veterinary opinions, that Abby does NOT have a heart murmur. However there was some wheezing in her chest which does not go away even with antibiotics (which the foster mom had also noticed), so an xray was taken. A specialist looked at the xray, she does not have asthma. (whew)

Abby's 5th veterinary exam was done in the foster home on 4/26/09. The vet listened to Abby's chest, and there was nowhere near the wheezing she had at the vet clinic, so the vet agrees that Abby stresses out when she takes a car ride in a carrier.

So, Abby is FINE and is looking for that great "forever home". As you see from the pictures, she is a HAM and loves having her picture made.

Baby
DOB 2007, DSH smoke female, very small build, petite and lanky. Beautiful green eyes!  Obviously has a little siamese in her from her lanky build, and she talks a little (her vocals sure did calm down after being spayed).  You can see in the pictures, she had just been here 5 minutes and was checking everything out, she was talking up a storm.

She was turned in at the county shelter and we fell in love with her outgoing attitude toward things. She's a survivor. Evidently from what the shelter staff said, she was pulled from a hoarding situation. She has a 'rib knob' where her rib sticks out from a previous injury but there is no pain per the vet, and we couldn't see it, so I guess you have to be a vet to find something like that.

She is ok with kids, small dogs and other cats. Now that she is spayed & is quieter we call her Baby instead of Crybaby. :)

DOB appx 9/12/08, DSH white with gray patches female. Breanna was turned in with her mom and siblings at the North Animal Care Center (NACC) in Titusville. Because they were owner turn ins, they can be put down at any point. They were desperate! PAWS rescued them and put them in a loving foster home so they could find Forever Homes. These little sweeties love human companionship. They are so funny to watch! This litter loves to give kisses. They are so sweet!

UPDATE:  Breanna's siblings and mother have been adopted.

Home without cats preferred Home without dogs preferred
DOB appx January 2008. DSH black with teeny bit of white on her chest. Spayed female.  Ali is a great one-on-one kitty.  She loves to be with and around her human.  She'll sit happily beside you, or on your lap, and just purr away.  Of course, if you're petting her, she likes that even more!  She's also a bit of a "talker" - just ask her a question and she'll answer - very cute!

We tried introducing her to other kitties. We had a tough time, but there are fewer cats in the foster room now, so she is no longer aggressive! It's like she learned she can either be nice, or live in a supersized cage, which we had to do with her for about 4 months.  Finally she figured it out!!!  So, she will be ok in a  home with other animals, as long as it's just a handful.

Pinecone

DOB appx December 2008. DSH brown classic tabby tuxedo. Neutered male.  He was just getting his adult canines in, so he was right at 5-1/2 months old when we found him.

Look at these markings! More like squiggles!  The brown is also more of a smoky greyish brown than a deep brown. Very unusual. He was found near an industrial area in Cocoa near Pine Cone Ave.  He was thin and hungry and begging for attention and food.  He ate almost nonstop when he got here.

He also loves to be a lap kitty, and loves it when you call his name and you really draw it out like pppiiiiiiiinnnnnneeeeeeeeeeccccccoooonnnnneeeee.  hahahaha.  OK with other cats and would probably do fine with dogs.

We have had several inquiries about adopting Pinecone. So we wanted to update his bio with more detail about some habits of his, which we are continuing to correct.  We have been working on these habits, trying to keep things positive while we correct him, so that takes more time and leads to a cat with better self esteem.

First, we believe he was thrown from a car window. The vet said his muscle spasms and spine misalignment were "consistent with a bad tumble". Based on where he was found, we are pretty sure he was thrown from a moving vehicle. He has had chiropractic to adjust his spine. He still will react with sensitivity (maybe 20% of the time?) when you pet his back too hard. He's not one that you can slap his back. Some cats like that, he does not. You must be gentle or he will whip around and treat you like another cat and clamp onto your arm for an attack.  So, we always call his name before we pet him from behind, if he's not already looking at us.  Sometimes he is really, really playful and we can tell if his eyes are dilated, if you pet him then he will swipe at you (claws not fully extended, luckily!!!(.  So he's quite a character and we have been consistently gentle with him.
He also likes to nurse on you while you eat at the table. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, here he comes, to suck on your shirt and leave a big wet spot. Ha!  We think that's cute but it is hard to break his habits while you are trying to eat too. We have found he will back off if you push his head away gently and say no.

Third, you cannot pet his tummy or he will want to grab your arm and play.  We have found the kittens who were played with like they were puppies (rolled around on their backs and played with human arms) are the ones with this behavior, and it is tough to break. Occasionally I touch his tummy once and then quit.  Just so I can teach him it's not always about "play".  So, we believe he would be best with older children.

DOB appx Jan 2006. DSH black and white spayed female.
Look at these markings! We love this picture.

She's a very sweet gal, very social and enjoys being loved on by whoever will indulge her. She does okay with other cats but prefers humans to cats. She is a true lap cat!

She isn’t fond of the dog (a Great Dane/Mastiff mix) but does okay with him and the other foster Great Dane.  (geez if you were a cat would you want a 150-pound puppy hovering over you??) Believe it or not she is fine with smaller dogs, and would do well with a less active, and smaller dog! LOL.

Sergio like JR is a big boy and has just as much love to give as he is big. In the picture his poised and ready to pounce on me and hug me and smuther me with kisses. Every morning when I go into the foster room to feed and love on every one, he greets me the same way. At first he was the shy one --- he stayed behind the big bookcase with his head and paws sticking out just enough to see what was going on. That lasted a few days and all of a sudden he was out and full of love. I am told that both boys are siblings.  He is not phased by my two dogs and would most likely do well with children but wouldn't be light enought to be picked up and carried around.

Taffi

DOB appx January 2009, DSH brown mackeral tabby tuxedo.  Spayed female & vaccinated as of 1/26/10.  Very sweet - let me tell you this story!

Usually rescuers are women, you know. Well, over time those husbands do get trained. It takes years, but they do soak up something! LOL  So...my husband was taking his evening walk and saw this kitty come out of the woods, and head right into traffic. Just trotting down the street, not a care in the world, and headed right for a car.....she darted out of the way just in time....so of course my wonderfully triained husband scooped her up, and walked 3/10 of a mile home with her, she was OK being held - at night, walked by a stranger, all that way!  Does that tell you anything about her super sweet personality!!!

So off to the vet she goes on 1/26, the soonest we could get her in....that's why her pictures show her in a cage, we cannot let a cat out with the other fosters when it's not tested and vaccinated, or spayed either....

As for her personality, we can tell she was with other cats. Nothing fazes this one!  Not a hiss or a spit at any cat outside her cage....usually we have to drape towels around the bottom of the cage when new cats are here, so they aren't face-to-face with so many strange cats.  But this little girl is fine with new cats, and strange people too, as proven by my husband!

In the pictures she was very curious about the camera, it was really hard to get her to back away for a full body picture!  So her head looks really big in some of them because she kept sticking her face up to the lens ....

She is very upset after being dumped at a relative's house and then dumped AGAIN by the relative -- she was left at the county shelter. PAWS got the call about this special girl and picked her up at the shelter the same day. Poor thing. We are trying to get her settled, she is hissy and upset although she is getting better. We have renamed Tom to 'Ben' because of his brother Jerry - they are sweet as ice cream! We think it fits better!!!

Both love to be on your shoulder, in your lap, or in your arms. They are big 12 pound boys and will stay in your arms as long as you can hold them!  Ben likes to jump into your arms, we haven't seen cats do that in quite awhile.  Very playful too...husband trying to tie his shoes tonight, trying...haha.

Jake

DOB approx 4/24/07  male DMH  orange tabby Maine Coon.
Jake was turned in to the shelter by a land lord. His tenants were evicted and just moved out and left him there to fend for him self. He is so sweet. The first week he watched in the window constantly to see if his owner was coming back for him. He finally has settled down and made himself at home. He is well mannered and sweet. He gets along with just about any of the cats here as long as they are not agressive towards him. He holds his own.  I talk to him and reassure him that his is loved and welcome here and that we will find him a forever home where he will never have to worry about abandonment again.

He was going to be put down at the animal shelter because he tested positive for feline aides. Jake is FIV +, so please be sure to read our bulletin board and check out the Cornell University site regarding this disease. You will find that it is no big deal and that  you can mix positives and negatives as long as everyone is fixed and non-aggressive. He can live a long and healthy life with out any problems.

Blue Bell

Adoption Pending

Approx 1-2 years old DLH Bi-Color Blue/White Persian.
Blue Bell was found on University Blvd. in Melbourne and dropped off in a gate box at the shelter in Melbourne. She was severely matted and filthy. But that didn't get her spirits down. She was sure she was still the Bell of the Ball when I went to see her to pick her up. She was just as prissy and sweet as if she has just been primped for a show. Unfortunately she had to be shaved ( see picture)to  get rid of the mats of knots. She is not to happy about that. She was proud of that coat even if it was knotted. Goodness, who knows how long she had been out there in the stickers and briars before someone picked her up. She does have a very peke face wich causes runny eyes and nose (overflowing tear ducts). Her button nose is so cute though. She does snort quite a bit. The shelter did start her on some antibiotics just to make sure she didn't have a cold that was causing her snorty breathing. She does love attention but is a little sensitive about being groomed or picked up right now, can you blame her? She has adjusted to her room mate Li'l Bit. I will try to intergrate her into a larger group of cats soon to see how she does. Not sure about her reaction to dogs yet.

George

DOB appx March 2009, this little guy was found on the street and is right around a year old per the vet. He's a short hair (DSH) black & white, very friendly, and hums in his throat to you!  We couldn't leave him out there, we had to get him off the street. He is incredibly grateful for food! He's a little thin so we are glad to fatten him up.

He is so friendly it is really hard to take his picture because he's rubbing against your legs, so many of our pictures were blurry or only half a cat, because he's so excited to have someone to pay attention to him!!!

He has a little wound on his back foot which you can see in one of the pictures, at the top of a couple of his toes there is a little place, which the vet says is healing nicely.  He's completely vetted (all shots, fixed, tested, chipped...) and ready to roll!  We will be introducing him to other cats soon. Nothing fazes this guy, not a hiss or a spit yet at anything, just purr purr purr!!!

Cricket

DOB appx 4/18/09, dilute tortie, mostly grey with a big beige spot on her face.  Spayed female. Very playful and high energy, thus her name!!  Cricket was pulled from kill room at eau gallie.

We cannot believe Cricket is not adopted yet. She's the last of the litter of 7 we pulled June 10, 2009. She knows her name, is petite (will probably be a 7 pound kitty). OK being held. Loves the laser pointer toy!!!

Dusty
Dusty is from the cute litter of four born about April 5th. Their mom gave birth to them in a roof over hang in a neighbor's house. When the little guys started walking around the gutters, the owners decided it was time to pull them out and call PAWS. Mama kitty took very good care of these little rolly pollies. They are very healthy and cute as could be.

Dusty is DSH white with brown tabby patches, and he has a white blaze down his nose.  He is a very social boy and will chirp to let you know he is happy. He likes to play with feathers. He will carry one around as if it is alive for hours and talk about it.  He is good with dogs and would be great with children.

Sibling to Dapple, Flicker, and Tiddles, who have been adopted.

Mandie

DOB appx 3/15/09, DSH-DMH tortie tuxedo. Spayed Female. Mistyh as white on her nose, chest and feet.  She was found in the parking lot at Publix on SR524 in Cocoa. The person called around and was sent to NACC which is the county (kill) shelter. She was upset to learn this shelter has only a 2% adoption rate so we agreed to pull the kitten.

Mandie is sweet and a little timid after being in a cage at NACC. She was also caged here due to URI but she is over that now so we are letting her out with the others to play. She is a little timid of noise, so we are suggesting she have a home without very young children. We are working with her on being picked up, she is improving daily, it's a trust factor. UPDATE: Mandie is lots better with noise, new people, and being picked up.

We finally got some better pictures of her. She has alot of white on her face so the flash really reflects off her face, it's hard to get a pic of her beautiful colors because of that! The pic on the purple carpet shows her colors the best.

Update: Due to Mandie's chronic URI from being at the county shelter, she has intense nasal passage scarring and will always 'snore' when she breathes.

Miley

DOB appx April 17, DSH dilute tortie, spayed female. Very sweet and loving. Playful too! Her sibling Tippy was adopted. Miley is very loving and adores being petted and carried around.  Miley will cry to be picked up and she loves snuggling into your shoulder and purring away. She definitely needs a kitty buddy to play with and a human who loves to have her nearby for snuggles. She likes tummy rubs too!

Smiley miley! A playful and sweet kitten!

Cats/rorie_july9.jpg

Rorie
DOB appx 3/15/09, DSH brown torbie. This color means she is brown with orange (instead of the typical black with orange).  The word 'torbie' is short for 'tortoiseshell tabby'.  (yes because that's alot to say every time).  If the cat has even one stripe at all, it's called a torbie. If there are no stripes, it's are a tortie.  DOH!

This litter was found in the woods in Cocoa.  Sibling to Scout, Debo, Drake, who have been adopted.  She is a typical tortie, growly for the first couple of days.  She tends to keep to herself so she would be okay going alone to a home. She is very independent and so you can only hold her for short times. It's on 'her' terms!!!

And...this litter looks and jumps like they have some Abyssinian in them!

Sammy

DOB aprox. 3/27/09. Male DSH white with black spots. Sammy was literally living in a hole in the ground when this nice family found him.  They wanted to make sure the he got a good forever home so they called PAWS. We took him in and found that he is quite a little character. He loves to play. I have found him playing with smaller kittens that are in a large kennel for isolatioin. He would give them toys and some times take their toys. But most of the time he was trying to play with them. He has been with children and is around other kittens and cats. He loves to play! He has the coolest spots like a dalmation.

Sammy is very social and doesn't mind being handled. He will pat you with his paw to see if it is ok to get on your lap and to tell you not to stop petting him. He has on occasion given me a lick on the face to wake me up to let me know he was there. It that didn't do the job he would then pat my face with his paw very gently. I can't resist.  He was adopted and then one of the children got severe asthma (she tried nebulizers) and it didnt' work out. Sammy has been around young children. Sammy  would probably do well with small dogs. He has been around my two medium to large dogs.

Jackson

DOB appx 4/3/09.  Male DSH white with tabby patches. He is cross-eyed!  But that doesn't slow him down a bit. Jackson was found at a community center in Palm Bay. A hawk was trying to snatch him up when a nice man named Mr. Jackson (hence his name) rescued him. He wasn’t able to keep him but wanted him to get the care he needed and find a good home.  He gave him to PAWS so we could foster the little guy.

He gets along well with older cats as well as with kittens. When I get home from work he follows me around while I do my chores to see what is going on. When I finally sit down he is right there on the arm of my recliner just looking up at me. He will reach up and pat at me to let me know he wants to be pet. Eventually he will crawl up on my lap. He is very polite when it comes to affection. When he gets busy playing and realizes he has lost track of me he will walk through the house calling me. It is a very distinctive call. He will make a great companion kitty.

Wendie
Home without children preferred

DOB appx April 10, 2009. DSH - DMH seal point siamese mix - spayed female. Wendie was found in a pasture, in an area where everyone has acreage, & farms. She was found alone, no momcat, no other kittens. We don't know how she got there - it is a mystery. Wendie's return has caused her to be shell-shocked (1/29) so we are letting her relax and we will get some pictures soon!   Note: Wendie's face is more of a wedge shape now that she is older. Her body color is a little darker now and the points are more spread across her face as you see in her new picture. She definitely needs a quiet home (no young children) with an outgoing cat, as Wendie's personality is just a bit shy. This can happen - as a kitten she was outgoing and fearless, but as she has matured she is shy.

Cats/Ferily.jpg

Ferily
DOB appx 2008 or 2009. DMH / Maine Coon mix spayed female. I have actually had this cat in my home since September 2009, and it's quite the story!! Just now (March 2010) listing her for adoption....Here is Ferily's Story!!! As most of our PAWS "followers" and adopters know, I manage several (5) feral cat colonies around the Cocoa area. If you have "established" colonies, the cats are all fixed and you watch like a hawk at feeding time for newcomers. What you don't want is that newly-dumped (and scared to death) female getting pregnant or giving birth before you can get her spayed!! You also want to catch the new ones (chances are they are tame) before they revert to the wild, which takes about 3 months. If they are tame you can have them vetted and find them a new home.

At one of my colonies where I had recently gotten the population under control, I see this new cat. Due to the medium fur I had no clue if it was male or female. So 50/50 chance of female and I wanted to get her trapped right away. She was new, so possibly tame, and she looked very hungry. I had a trap in the car so I set it up with some yummy canned food, and she was an easy one, I practially pushed her in!! A couple of days later I got a vet appointment to get her spayed. The vet said the cat was very, very thin and could I hold the cat to fatten her up a little before re-releasing her to the feral colony? Of course I agreed. The trick is to use a large enough trap to hold a small litterpan at one end, and food/water at the other.

After a couple of days I realized 3 things - she was tame (and probably recently dumped), why she was thin, and why she was dumped (probably). She had some horrific and violent diarrhea. Yep, that'll do it in most homes. The area I got her from is Section 8 housing so tempers are short, and so is money for vet care. So, off we went to the vet. Oh boy was this an uphill battle. It took me 3 months to stabilize her poo, and each day I would have quite a mess in that cage to clean up. Our paper towel budget about doubled. Finally I got the hint to put paper towels under the litterpan and that made it easier to clean up, because they absorbed any watery "spills". Ahem. Well, after she got stabilized, I let her out of the cage. Yes, she is tame. To a point. She was in a home where (most likely) she did not get alot of positive attention. So she is just a touch skittish until she trusts you. Food wins her over every time!!! She's actually quite a nice girl who is ok being picked up by people she trusts. So, she's not feral, but I had to give her a name to get her on the "roster" at the vet for her fecals and meds to correct her little gut problem. Thus her name Ferily. (derived from the word "feral" on the fly at the vet) I don't want to have to put her back out in that Section 8 housing area, she's having SO MUCH FUN here, she plays like you have never seen....I think she's one of those cats who didn't have a good "childhood" so she's making up for it now! I'm working on better pictures. She's a very light brown color.

Cats: A Few Success Stories

All our felines are spayed or neutered before adoption (this is Brevard County law). They are vaccinated according to age (young kittens cannot receive a Rabies Vaccine). All are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS. They are also wormed and treated for fleas. The adoption fee is $75 per animal.

If you are interested in adopting please download and submit the PAWS Adoption Application at the top of the page. Note: PAWS volunteers are very good at matching your lifestyle with a kitty who would be the best fit. We have had most of these kitties running loose in our own homes, so we know them well. Ask which one would best fit your home! Thanks!

If you are unable to adopt, you can donate! Even $5 to $10 will help cover either a Rabies Vaccine, two Distemper shots, or four doses of Advantage....we know how to stretch a dollar! Every little bit helps the kitties! (Thanks!)
