If you are interested in adopting one of these cats or kittens, please download our application and fax or mail it to the PAWS office. One of our foster moms will email you back, so please monitor your email afterward. The reason we prefer email is so we can provide informational websites, etc., and our foster moms are working most days (at full time jobs) so emailing is easiest. We get dozens of applications per week so we have found this is most efficient.

Please be sure to write legibly when filling out an application.  This is essential for us to be able to contact you back.

Cat or Kitten-Which Should You Adopt?

gokitty.gif

Young kittens should not be adopted as “only pets.”  These babies need the play skills, comfort, and social skillbuilding that can only come from living with another cat or kitten.  We work with adopters to educate them in this regard and do not place one small kitten alone in a home.  An existing family cat serves the need, although people often return for a second youngster after discovering that the little one is driving a more sedate, older cat nuts.  Babies need much more playtime for good health than the average person understands and suffer from the lack thereof when adopted alone.  People are not equipped to supply the many hours of rough and tumble exercise that a second kitten can, nor should they assume that role.  Exercise aside, the comfort of another animal to a kitten just removed from its littermates is simply humane. ~Cat Fancy June or July 2009

DeeDee

Born about  1/6/10 to a neighborhood cat that someone left behind.  She was the only kitten in the litter and survived that very bad cold spell in January.  One of the neighbors took in the stray and gave PAWS the kitten.  She is adorable and will be ready for a new home about the middle of March.

Kittens do better in pairs, and after Dot was adopted with one of her brothers, that left DeeDee and Desi both on their own.  Desi is DeeDee's buddy now and they get along great.

Desi

These Maine Coon mixed medium haired kittens were born 12/15 to a mom cat that was left behind after her owners moved out. She was left to defend herself and try to find food for herself and her young kittens in the very cold 2 weeks of Janurary. Luckily someone left their garage door opened and she brought all the kittens inside.  This person called PAWS and we took the kittens.  Mom cat is going to be spayed and they are going to keep her.  Sibling to Dot, Dash, Dex, and Ditto.

Desi is the brown tabby with no white on the nose.  His four siblings have been adopted.  Since kittens do better when with others their age, and since one of the adopted siblings was DeeDee's buddy, Desi has been paired with DeeDee so both have someone to play with.  They get along great.

Joshua

DOB appx 7/15/09. DSH smoke tabby tuxedo neutered male.

This litter was found on the street with their mom, eating at a feral cat colony. Mom was feral for sure, the kittens were so small (5 weeks) they were hand caught by the caregiver. They tamed up in 10 minutes!  Sibling to Julia who has already been adopted.

A cat who is a smoke color means their fur looks like the color of charcoal, not quite fully black, and when you rub the fur backwards, it's white underneath!!  It's a rare color. They are from the same stray cat area as Pretty Girl so we are pretty sure they are 'cousins'.

When the mother of the foster mom brought her dog over, he was totally unfazed.  We believe he would be ok with dogs.

Kittens/Freda.jpg

Freda

DOB appx July 2009, DSH lilac point siamese, spayed female, we got his litter when we responded to a "free kittens" sign by the road. The lady now has all her stray cats fixed, thanks to our local spay neuter programs for strays and ferals (via Space Coast Feline Network).

This little girl is a quite shy but loves to be petted, if you can catch her! So, she hasn't really tamed up, and now that she is older, she is more skittish than ever. So we are looking to put her into a feral colony -- must be an indoor one, if she goes outdoors, with her light coloring, she would be owl or hawk bait.  Her brother Frodo also needs a place to go, he did not tame up either.

Her momcat was caught and tested for Feline Leukemia so we are all set.  Sibling to Freddy, Frank and Frodo.

Frodo

DOB appx July 2009. DSH grey neutered male. Frodo is still shy and practially feral so we need a colony where he can live is life out safely. He has been vaccinated for rabies, and we will have him eartipped. Who has a feral colony?  We'd like to try to find him an indoor colony if possible.  Despite efforts, we have been unable to tame him.

Peaches

DOB approx 10/15/09, female DSH tortie tuxedo Manx.

Peaches was found on the side of the road by a nice family all alone cold and scared. The family took her in but could not keep her permanently because they already had three pets. The called PAWS to see if we could take her and find her a new home to call her own. She is a cute little thing. She has such petite features on her face. She looks like she has tortie colored pajamas on. She is very vocal and playful as you can see in the pictures.  She is adjusting to my home with many cats as good as could be expected. She would much rather have her own home with her own toys and bed that she didn't have to share. Right now she is happy to be warm and safe. Her  fur is silky soft and she actually has a little nub of a tail. She is very good with her front paws which is a trait of her breed. She would make such a great addition to a family. She has been around children and dogs. I think she could adjust well to most situations.

Achilles and Phedre

DSH grey tabby tuxedos born mid-August 2009.  In both pictures, the female, Phedre, is on the left; the male, Achilles, is on the right.  Their markings are almost identical, but Phedre's eyes are amber, and Achilles eyes are green.

Achilles is a playful and affectionate.  He and one of his sisters, Phedre, were adopted but now the adopters are not able to care for them.  Phedre is a sweet and loving.

Achilles loves attention and being around people.  He will greet you at the door when you come home and then follow you around the house, meowing, to see what you are doing.  He loves being picked up and petted, and will crawl into your lap and nap on your chest, purring contently.   Achilles is very easy-going and gets along well with other cats and children.

Phedre is an adorable girl and has the cutest high-pitched meow that sounds almost like a little squeak.  She is a little more reserved and independent than her brother, Achilles.  She doesn’t like being picked up very much but she does enjoy being petted and will often sleep curled up to people or other cats.

Achilles and Phedre have been together since birth and they are very attached to one another.  They sleep together, cuddle together, eat together, and play together.  Keeping them with each other would be ideal, but they are available for adoption separately.

Kittens: A Few Success Stories

All our felines are spayed or neutered before adoption (this is Brevard County law). They are vaccinated according to age (young kittens cannot receive a Rabies Vaccine). All are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS. They are also wormed and treated for fleas. The adoption fee is $75 per animal.

If you are interested in adopting please download and submit the PAWS Adoption Application at the top of the page. Note: PAWS volunteers are very good at matching your lifestyle with a kitty who would be the best fit. We have had most of these kitties running loose in our own homes, so we know them well. Ask which one would best fit your home! Thanks!

If you are unable to adopt, you can donate! Even $5 to $10 will help cover either a Rabies Vaccine, two Distemper shots, or four doses of Advantage....we know how to stretch a dollar! Every little bit helps the kitties! (Thanks!)
