Description:
NOTE: OUR SHELTER IS PARTNERING WITH CENTRAL BREVARD HUMANE SOCIETY TO PLACE THIS PUPPY - HE IS NOW 8 MONTHS AND ALL THE VETS SAY HE IS READY FOR ADOPTION!

This absolute sweetie was found in the middle of an alley in the very early morning hours, unable to walk. We checked "lost" ads but found nothing.

We named him Chance because it's only "by chance" he was found and brought to us.  We aren't sure how all his injuries occurred and the vet says:

(1) his left front "wrist" or ankle is broken

(2) Chance's right front shoulder is broken

(3) His right rear leg (knee) is broken

(4) Chance was VERY thin, we could see his hipbones and spine against the skin

We did only xrays at first (and pain meds) - so he will be vaccinated, neutered, and have a h/w test later. Right now we just want to get him pain free and walking!

UPDATE: the next day after going to the vet, the pain & inflammation reducing meds are working and Chance is able to stand up a little.

Update: April 7 - he sees a specialist tomorrow. he has put on alot of weight! We think he has gained 4 pounds! (he wants to eat constantly)

UPDATE: April 8 - the specialist in Tampa has estimated his surgery at $3,000 and it could go to $5,000 depending if they find anything more...help is DEFINITELY needed! And since puppy bones are young and heal quickly, we will need to do the surgery next week! But...the age old problem - gotta have the funds before the surgery can proceed...

UPDATE: April 10: We found a local specialist who agreed to do the surgery! See the xrays attached, the xray with the tail showing in between the legs is of course the rear, the other xray is the front. You can see on the right side where the breaks are.

Chance's fundraiser is here: http://www.gofundme.com/6t1n84 (thanks to so many people who gave, it all added up and expenses to date are covered)

UPDATE: April 14 - we have taken Chance to surgery. See his picture during the trip on the lap of our volunteer, Erin, plus his pic by the sign outside the clinic before we went inside.  12:15 we got the call that his surgery has started.

UPDATE FROM SURGERY: Dr. Godwin just called us at 2:45 pm, he only was able to do the front leg today because Chance was under anesthesia so long. He will do the back leg tomorrow. Chance is waking up just fine!

April 15 update: His 2nd surgery went fine, he was waking up fine about 7:30 pm. The specialist did more xrays of his LEFT FRONT ankle and it is also broken, and luckily can be splinted no surgery needed (yay). So Chance will have a cast on that one!

April 16: We got another call about 9am today, that Chance can be released and will be restricted severely on what he can do. This will be a challenge for the foster mom, keeping a puppy from jumping, etc. Thanks to EVERYONE for all the well wishes, donations, calls, texts, emails, posts on Facebook, etc. We will post new pictures of "after surgery" showing how he is doing. And thanks to Nancy and Bob Allen, who transported Chance back to his foster home -- from AMC in Palm Bay, to Cocoa.

April 17 update - Chance is full of energy, so much that we have to crate him. He is not allowed to jump around so soon after surgery! Plus he's really frustrated trying to "assume the position" in the grass to go poo. Poor little guy!  He's trying....and doing FINE.....

April 18 the vet told us to go ahead and start him on heartworm prevention so we did.

April 21: We had to take him back to AMC because his right front leg looked like it was a "wing"...come to find out the wrappings had twisted so his leg is fine (whew), he got re-wrapped, and they redid his cast on the left front (it was rubbing his little armpit). Now it's only a half cast. See his new blue wraps in his videos and Easter pictures!!

We want to point out that his foster mom, Erin, is fabulous. She is the one in the ballcap in the pictures. She has fattened him up - he was really bony, as you can see how thin he is in the first pictures (eating from a bowl is where you see it the most). Now in the videos you can tell he has a good layer of fat under his skin!!

We were wondering what breed Chance is, so we purchased a Wisdom Panel and it came back primarily American Stafforshire Terrier mix. The mix portion could be any of these: Sheepdog, Havanese, English Springer Spaniel, Weimeraner, or Flat Coated Retriever.

His gofundme page is where we are putting all his recent pictures and videos - go take a look!  http://www.gofundme.com/6t1n84
